OUR COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT
Dora Jewelry takes recycling, environmental concerns and natural resource sustainability very seriously. We are commited to responsible sourcing, so we create jewelry with 100% recycled silver and 18kt Rose gold vermeil. Mining silver highly impacts the environment. It causes erosion and contaminates ground water. A high level of mercury and cyanide are often found in water. These substances are dramatically damaging to human health. Electronic waste, from smartphones to computers, could be a significant source of supply. Experts have argued for years that it’s more efficient to mine electronics for something like gold than to operate an actual gold mine—the concentration of gold contained in one ton of old mobile phones is 100 times greater than the concentration found in a gold-mining pit in the natural world.
Eco-silver is an eco-friendly alternative to newly mined silver, made of 100% recycled sterling silver. It is made from electronics, old jewelry, medical equipment and giftware that is melted down and reformed into workable wire, sheet, grain and solder. No purity is lost in the recycling process. Recycled silver is of the same quality as newly mined silver, but extremely more sustainable for our beautifully crafted pieces, so the completed products won’t be different.
We must prioritize recycled silver in the jewelry industry to progress in the journey towards sustainability.
We source our eco-silver from US based company United Precious Metal Refining, Inc. Check below our certificate from SCS Scientific Global Services, a global leader in third-party environmental and sustainability certification, testing and standards development.
